About
Brandon Chamber Players is pleased to present BRIDGE, featuring cellist and Brandon University professor Leanne Zacharias in a concert of unique collaborations in a unique site: Brandon’s historic and iconic Provincial Exhibition ‘Dome’ building. This newly-renovated space will provide an immersive setting for musical pairings of cello with percussion, choir, video, contemporary dance, clarinet and more. Collaborative artists include visual artist Kevin DeForest, the BU Chorale directed by Andrée Dagenais, clarinettist Cathy Wood, and percussionist Eric Platz. Four premieres will be presented, including a new work composed by BU percussion professor Eric Platz, and the Canadian premiere of a duo by Syrian composer Kinan Azmeh.
“This concert is my opportunity to celebrate some of my strongest musical relationships - with local friends, students and colleagues, as well as bridging the distance between me and far-flung artist friends: a composer in New York, a choreographer in New Brunswick, and organist in San Francisco, another composer in Montreal. The program also bridges disparate genres, musical languages and instrumental differences through atypical instrumental combinations and many unorthodox techniques and sounds. The audience can prepare to hear everything from knitting needles to desk bells to water goblets and more...I don’t want to give away all the sonic surprises! They can also prepare to get closer to the instruments and performers than concert settings typically allow. It is a gorgeous hall and I’m thrilled to be filling it with sound this Friday.” -Leanne Zacharias
