The Winnipeg Folk Festival is thrilled to present Folk in the City: Live at the Burt in partnership with True North Streaming. These four free online shows will take place March 7, 14, 21 and 28 at 7 PM CT as part of the Manitoba Government's Safe at Home Manitoba. Folk in the City: Live at the Burt will feature incredible local talent performing on stage at the Burton Cummings Theatre and backstage interviews with artists sharing their favourite Winnipeg Folk Fest memories. All shows can be viewed live on both the Winnipeg Folk Festival Facebook page and YouTube channel.
Folk in the City: Live at the Burt will feature past Festival friends and new Festival friends with everything from hip hop to soul, African rhythms to American Gospel and early swing to Americana. The artists joining us throughout the month of March span several genres and you'll hear from 2020 Polaris Music Prize longlist hip hop group Super Duty Tough Work, Anishinaabe musician Leonard Sumner, bilingual singer-songwriter Kelly Bado and experimental hip hop artist Anthony OKS.
Explore acoustic soul and Americana with JP Hoe and dance to Romani jazz and early swing band Juvel. Fans will be serenaded by alt-folk musician Micah Erenberg, the deep baritone vocals of Richard Inman and the soulful three-part harmonies of Sweet Alibi with solo performances by Sweet Alibi's own Amber Nielsen and Jess Ayre.
Hear local singer-songwriters like roots powerhouse duo The Small Glories, folk and country musician Andrina Turenne, Americana performer Kris Ulrich, and folk and blues artist Little Miss Higgins.
