Ismaila Alfa, Rhonda “Fenom” Thompson, Rob Crooks and Michael “DJ Kutdown” Arnone – collectively known as Magnum KI – have long been a hip-hop group known for blurring the lines between genres; combining elements of jazz and reggae with traditional hip-hop sensibilities. On December 19, Magnum KI celebrates the release of Select, and their third album finds the group at their most melodic. With striking shifts in dynamic, densely textured melody, clever lyrics and sophisticated song-form, the quartet has matured into a battle-hardened, road-tested group with a clearly defined identity.
