Does a knit-cap go with a tuxedo? Winnipeg-born, Toronto-based soul man Remy Shand might be asking himself that right now after nominations for the 45th Annual Grammy Awards were announced this morning. Up for an impressive four awards in the R&B category, Shand joins the ranks of some of the most talented artists around in being recognized by The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.

Shand’s acclaimed debut The Way I Feel has been nominated for Best R&B Album. His song “Take A Message” has been nominated for Best R&B Song as well as Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. As if that isn’t enough, Shand’s popular song “Rocksteady” has been nominated for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance.

He shares the nominations with such famous acts as R. Kelly, Usher, Erykah Badu, Chaka Kahn & The Funk Brothers, The Temptations and Luther Vandross.

Winnipeg audiences had the chance to experience Shand’s unique vocal style in local experimental rock outfits Leaderhouse and Load before he exploded onto the world music scene with The Way I Feel in 2001. The songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist and self-producer recorded the album – which was picked up by the famous Detroit-based Motown Records - in his home in West Kildonan.

The 45th Annual Grammy Awards will take place on February 23 at Madison Square Garden in New York City and will be telecast to an audience of over two billion people in 180 countries.
