Plenty of New Homegrown Music in September
September is typically a big month for CD releases and 2007 is no different. This month, over half a dozen Manitoba acts are releasing new work, including one of Manitoba's top exports -- The Weakerthans.
The month also sees releases from up-and-coming alt.rock/electro outfit Tele, who recently had its song "Choose" placed on NBC show Science of Love. You can download a free mp3 of Tele's new track "Notice" from The Loudspeaker on manitobamusic.com until September 13.
Pop/punk trio 20 Pound Shovel unleashes its debut recording, as does indie rock act The Details. Coming up later in the month, blues rocker Scott Nolan offers up his latest release with a little help from Texan Gurf Morlix. The West End Cultural Centre (WECC) is home to all four CD release parties.
Fans of acclaimed band The Weakerthans will finally have something new for their iPods. The literate rock act will unfurl its fourth recording, the Ian Blurton-produced Reunion Tour, on Anti/Epitaph on September 25. Winniped-based label Smallman Records will release the debut full-length, Nightlife, from Sick City on the same day. Nightlife hits stores in the U.S. in October on Trustkill Records. No CD release party is schedule yet as the band is busy on tour with Boys Nite Out, hitting the WECC on September 30.
While Nathan released its latest effort, Key Principles, on Nettwerk several months ago, it has another kind-of release in September. The Juno-nominated roots act will debut its three videos from the new album on September 6, 7, and 8 at Times Change(d) High & Lonesome Club. Included will be videos for "Trans Am," "The Wind," and "A Terrible Way To See Omaha."
