Bands vs. Filmmakers V: A Concert in Support of Cinematheque
Back for its fifth year, Bands VS Filmmakers brings us another round of treats for the ears and the eyes at the West End Cultural Centre on May 23.
The event features five new silent films from emerging local indie filmmakers who have collaborated with five local musical acts to create a union of complimenting audio and visuals. As the film plays the accompanying musicians will perform a live set, making for a unique experience for the audience.
Hosted by Aisha Alfa, this year showdown sees a diverse group of musicians from different genres paired up with the filmmakers. Deco Dawson worked with upbeat rock group Attica Riots, Freya Olafson joined forces with the mesmerizing sounds of Blunderspublik, Ryan Simmons teamed up with electronic hip hop musician Rob Crooks, Gwen Trutnau worked with the melodic rap of Pip Skid, and Forrest McGregor with the shoe gaze rock sounds of Basic Nature.
Tickets for this fundraising evening in support of the Winnipeg Cinematheque can be purchased for $20 in advance, or $25 at the door. There will also be a silent auction of prize packages from various Winnipeg art groups, to DVD cult classics and more.
