Safe + Sound

Exploring Music Creation in Our Communities

Four-Part Video Series Launches April 29 via Facebook and YouTube

This spring, Manitoba Music is sharing some of the stories behind the songs of four inspiring artists from Manitoba with new video series, Safe + Sound.

Presented with the support of Safe At Home MB, the video series explores music creation in our communities and the undeniable connection local musicians have to their stomping grounds, their homes, studios, neighbourhoods, and favourite music venues.

This genre-spanning series offers a glimpse at the creative spaces of each artist as they share insights into their artistic process and their connections to their neighbourhoods. Episodes also capture a pair of performances from each act, including exciting returns to cherished music rooms, filmed on location with 4/4 Films.

Kicking off the series on April 29, up-and-coming hip hop/R&B act Caid Jones takes his undeniable energy to the rooftops of Downtown Winnipeg and the stage at The Park Theatre.

JUNO-nominated country singer/songwriter Desiree Dorion shares powerful stories and an intimate performance from Dauphin’s Watson Art Centre on May 6.

Ambient jazz/pop artist Sala brings her singular style and performance to St. Boniface and the stage at Centre culturel franco-manitobain (CCFM) on May 13.

Western Canadian Music Award-winning prog rockers Dizzy Mystics close out the series in Stony Mountain before hitting the bright lights at The Park Theatre on May 20.

“We’re excited to share these beautiful short films in Safe + Sound,” says Sean McManus, Manitoba Music’s executive director. “We’re grateful to the artists and venues for opening their doors and giving us a glimpse into their spaces and communities. The music sector in Manitoba continues to face extraordinary challenges during this pandemic. It’s inspiring to hear artists speak generously about their connection to home when they can’t be out on the road. Thank you to the Safe At Home MB for helping us bring these stories to the screen.”

Tune in via Facebook and YouTube on Thursdays at 7PM CT starting April 29.
