We’re excited to launch a new addition to our calendar of professional development opportunities this year! The January Music Meeting will host some of Canada’s top music industry pros in a conference format that includes panels, workshops, discussion groups, and one-on-one meetings.

Reps from the label, agency, management, festival, publishing, and publicity sides of the industry will converge on Winnipeg to discuss the state of Canada’s independent music industry and provide concrete advice on how to succeed in the ever-changing music business.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain access to tastemakers and experts from across the country while connecting with local artists and industry peers, at a conference designed and held right here in Winnipeg.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 24

12pm – 1pm
Registration & Introduction

Whether you’re an emerging artist or company, or a veteran looking to reconnect, this opening session will prepare you to get the most out of the January Music Meeting. The panel will do introductions, outline the weekend’s events, and offer tips on how to make the most of the panels, networking, discussions, and meetings.

1pm – 2:30pm
Stand By Your Brand: Online Asset Reviews

This is a chance to see what the industry sees when your name comes up! In small discussion groups, panelists will examine the first impression they get from a band or company based solely on what they can find from a Google search. All registrants will have a chance to receive a critique of their social media presence, video content, branding, music, and website. Remove the mystery of how you are perceived online, and get real tips on how to cut through the online clutter of the music scene.

2:45pm - 3:45pm
It’s the Brand, Understand: Best Practices for Pitching Industry

This workshop will provide a summary and highlight the best practices and common pitfalls of the online asset review. Panelists will discuss how to use marketing material to get the attention of the industry.

4pm – 5pm
It’s the Brand, Understand: Marketing to Your Fanbase

Understand and build a brand that will capture the imagination of media and music fans. Panelists will provide examples of marketing techniques that helped propel the profiles of their clients.

5pm – 6pm
BreakOut West Networking Mixer
Many say that talent in only part of the equation for success. The other is relationships, connections, and the opportunities that come from the dreaded word – “networking.” Presented by BreakOut West, the networking mixer offers registrants an opportunity to rub elbows with the guest speakers, local mentors, and peers.
