About

An artist and member of the Pimicikamak Cree Nation, her ancestry consists of the Nakota-Cree tribe. Lisa Muswagon is an artist who shares her story on a contemporary hand drum. Her late grandfather Murdo Scribe, who told legends from Northern Manitoba, wanted to leave a legacy that reflects culture, identity and pride among the future generations. She wanted to carry on the tradition of story telling through vocals and the drum while inspiring young people to develop their craft.

Lisa teaches youth about the hand drum, sharing stories and meaning behind singing. Working closely with the youth in her community she was listed as #4 in 'Ace Burpee’s Top 100 Fascinating Manitobans of 2016'. Lisa recently released her solo album project ‘Buffalo and Rabbits’ which is a ten story-titled contemporary hand drum album which earned her a 2017 Indigenous Music Award Nomination for Best New Artist. Buffalo and Rabbis also received a nomination for "Aboriginal Songwriter of the Year" at the Canadian Folk Music Award.

The album Buffalo and Rabbits is available for download on all digital outlets.
