Power 97 Announces the River City Rocks Class of 2010
The votes are counted and Power 97 is ready to announce the Class of 2010. Rock acts Broken Halo, Prophet, The Afterbeat, and Talk City beat out hundreds of other local bands to take the top four spots in this year's River City Rocks competition.
Plans are in motion for a showcase concert in the coming months and one of the bands will be opening the Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival with Disturbed and Avenged Sevenfold on October 2 at MTS Centre.
Power 97's music director, Casey Norman says the reason behind the annual competition is simple: "To promote Winnipeg’s vibrant rock music scene. Winning bands get exposure. Power 97 offers airplay, an appearance at a station event, and a 'presents' package promoting a show of their choosing. Power 97's River City Rocks contest gives local bands a wide reaching audience."
According to Norman, the competition had its best turn-out yet this year. Band's can get in on the Class of 2011 in May of next year. Meanwhile, bands can still sign up to Supernova.com for an opportunity to get on-air exposure throughout the year.
