Noise Paullution, a solo project by Paul Marchand is set to release a four-song EP, How it Started – How it’s Going, on Friday, January 26, 2024.

The compositions on the EP were initially written as ‘campfire songs’ and are centered around an acoustic 6-string guitar, but a 12-string was included to 3 songs for depth and ambience, and it grew from there. Drums and bass were deemed necessary on a few, while a ‘house’ beat, samples, and an organ were incorporated on various tracks.

Paul wrote all the music and lyrics, all arrangements, and performed almost all instruments on the EP. There are a couple guest appearances on the record because Paul’s visions and ambitions were beyond his ability as a ‘lead’ guitar player. Both friends accepted their invitations - Alf Catolico and Bjorn Johnson graciously donated their time and their talents.

How it Started – How it’s Going is a deeply personal and very literal album. There aren’t many euphemisms or metaphors on it although some of the lyrics could be interpreted with multiple meanings. Common themes revolve around the arc of time, self-reflection, various interpretations of love, home, and uncertainty about the future. The subject matter can be a bit morose, and at the risk of using an overstated word, melancholic, but many folks will likely be able to relate to the material because they’re simply songs about everyday life viewed through a personal lens.

Local (Winnipeg) musician/engineer, Mike Wagner engineered, edited, and is currently mixing the record while also producing with Paul. The album will be mastered by Emily Lazar at The Lodge in NYC, NY, USA in the coming weeks.

Noise Paullution: How it Started – How it’s Going, will be pre-released on CD locally (Winnipeg) in mid-January 2024 and followed by an official worldwide release on Friday, January 26. The EP will be available on most streaming and subscription-based platforms.
