Viento South presents 'Traveling Songs,' a show dedicated to immigrants next February 8th (Winnipeg) and February 15th (Brandon).

The 'Traveling Songs Concert Series' aims to evoke emotional experiences and inspire reflection on travel and immigration within the Manitoban community. Funded by the Manitoba Arts Council and supported by the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the project features two concerts in Manitoba showcasing Latin folk music in Spanish, French, and English. Both concerts blend music and community engagement, with Viento South performing original compositions alongside a global repertoire. In a show lasting approximately one and a half hours, four chapters of immigration are explored: 1. New Beginnings, Farewells, and Waiting. 2. Postcards and Identity. 3. Adaptation. and 4. Paths and Searching. Musicians from Mexico, Colombia, Ukraine and Canada are part of the band as invited musicians.

“The songs are metaphors for people's journeys and movements, exploring how music can grow in new lands while retaining its roots” says Lucho, and Paulina affirms that “our idea is to be an amplifier of immigrant voices and memories”, reason why the community will be invited to share images, videos, texts, and recordings related to the four thematic categories. This initiative will create a space to bring travelers' stories to light. This material will be shared with the audience during the shows with prior authorization from the owners of said materials.
