oblivion 1981 is the second album, EP, from solo artist Ben Rüsch, on the SDR label. The self-produced album features 4 tracks of synthpop/ new wave/ darkwave music echoing the musical styles of Ultravox, Gary Numan, and Strange Advance
The album was completed after the defacto split of Rüsch's former band, PROVIDENCE, a Winnipeg progressive rock power trio, with whom he played drums and percussion. The tracks featured on the album are studio takes that did not fit the lyrical and musical themes for inclusion on neuroshock's debut album, The Reactance Bias.
The album explores memories of youth in the 1980s. feelings of detachment, loneliness, and uncertainty in life in a miliary family on the move.
