About

Ben Rüsch is a multifaceted musician and producer based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, known for his immersive solo project, neuroshock.

Operating from his boutique studio, Studio Irrenhaus, Rüsch crafts a distinctive blend of dark wave, industrial, and electronic music that delves into themes of alienation, dystopia, and emotional introspection.

Musical Evolution and Themes

Rüsch’s journey began as the drummer for the progressive rock trio PROVIDENCE, but with neuroshock, he explores the depths of electronic soundscapes. His debut album, The Reactance Bias(2023), introduces listeners to a world of oppression, emotional abuse, and systemic anger, characterized by abrasive textures and haunting vocals.

Building on this foundation, Mechanical Empath (2025) presents a more aggressive sonic approach, incorporating vintage synths like Moog and Oberheim alongside modern tools such as Spectrasonics Omnisphere 2. The album serves as a “primal scream,” addressing themes of self-doubt, inner turmoil, and external conflicts.

The oblivion 1981 EP (2024) offers a more introspective experience, blending nostalgic synth tones with themes of memory, identity, and existential uncertainty. Tracks like “Cryptomimic Dreams” and “1981” evoke a sense of longing and disconnection.

Influences and Artistic Approach

Rüsch’s musical influences are deeply rooted in the synth-driven sounds of the late ’70s and early ’80s. He cites artists such as Gary Numan, The Fixx, and Pink Floyd as significant inspirations. These influences are evident in his work, which combines futuristic synth textures with thematic depth.

As a solo artist, Rüsch is responsible for every aspect of neuroshock’s music, from writing and performing to producing and engineering. This hands-on approach allows him to maintain a cohesive and personal sound throughout his discography.

Recognition and Collaborations

In 2023, Rüsch received the Excelsior Award, acknowledging his contributions to the music industry. He also operates Sonic Disruption Research, an independent label that supports both neuroshock and PROVIDENCE, offering artist support and promotion services.
