Jazz Fest Announces 2005 Line-up
Despite a vacancy in the Artistic Director's chair, this year's Jazz Winnipeg Festival is already lining up some great music for it's annual June event. The Festival, which runs June 16 through June 25 in various downtown Winnipeg venues, boasts several Grammy and Juno awards winners as well as a strong local presence.
Recent triple Juno winner K-OS will perform, along with veteran American roots rockers Los Lobos, jazz legend Roy Haynes, and Grammy winners Dianne Reeves and Dave Holland.
Local vocalist Jodie Borl will be featured in the Late Night Series, along with hometown acts Steve Kirby, Gilles Fournier, and Michelle Grgoire. Over at the MTs Stage in Old Market Square, Winnipeg legend Big Dave McLean, The New Meanies, and Saskatchewan guitar prodigy Kyle Riabko will all perform during the opening weekend. Moses Mayes makes a triumphant return to Jazz Fest for a Funk Soul Night.
Jazz Fest continues its tradition of presenting a diverse line-up, blurring the lines between traditional and modern forms of jazz, blues, funk, soul, R&B, electronic, and rock.
