Strong Local Presence at Toronto’s Canadian Music Week

Posted on

Thirteen Manitoba acts are packing their gear and heading to Toronto this week to showcase at one of Canada’s biggest music industry conferences and festivals. Some of Manitoba’s leading artists as well as up-and-coming acts will represent their home province in front of fans, industry, and media at Toronto’s Canadian Music Week (CMW). CMW runs March 11-14 and features 500 showcasing bands over five nights at over 45 live music venues.

This year’s list of showcasing acts includes several of Manitoba’s top rock outfits, including: The Waking Eyes, Sights & Sounds, Inward Eye, Domenica, Floor Thirteen, and Port Amoral. Joining the rockers will be indie popsters The Liptonians, The Details, and Taylor Demetrioff, as well as country crooner Bryce Pallister, singer/songwriter/fiddler Sierra Noble, and hip-hop act Grand Analog. The legendary Burton Cummings will also take to the stage for the festivities.

The Manitoba delegation will also include prominent local industry professionals, Paradise Alley Production’s Dale Penner, Smallman Records’ Jason Smith and Rob Krause, and Arbor Records’ Brandon Friesen.

CMW is an annual event that encompasses a festival, conference, trade show and multiple awards shows, including the Canadian Independent Music Awards, also know as The Indies. Three Manitoba acts have been nominated for The Indies this year, including two nods for The Weakerthans, for Favourite Live Artist/Group and Favourite Rock Artist/Group. The Waking Eyes are up for Favourite Video for “All Empires Fall” and Doc Walker is nominated for Favourite Country Artist/Group. The Indies will be awarded at a gala event kicking off CMW on March 14.
