The Record of the Week Club
Take 3 or 4 musicians who've never worked together before; lock them in a studio for an evening; and force them to create a new song before they can go home. Think it sounds like a good idea?
We did, so we're devoting most of the show to exploring the topic.
Many of Winnipeg's finest musicians were recently involved in a musical experiment that's wrapped up recently in the city: The Record of the Week Club. It's a really interesting social experiment. This weekend you'll hear music created in one night by people from different musical backgrounds. Plus, they'd never met before the session.
We'll hear from participants like John K Samson of The Weakerthans, killer vocalist Andrina Turenne, and taiko drummer Phoebe Mann. We'll also go and speak with the mastermind, producer Mike Petkau. And, CBC's very own Ismaila Alfa - a rapper by night - will be Wab's co-host, so that we can get the artist' point of view, first hand.
A note to the die-hard listeners: If you're wondering whether you've heard us talk about this project before, it's because you have. We loved this episode much, we decided to dust it off and share it again to those who missed it earlier this winter!
