Six Manitoba Bands Vie for Verge

XM Canada's The Verge Music Awards are back and there are plenty of Manitoba acts up for top honours. The awards' aim is to celebrate the best indie music Canada has to offer, giving artists a chance to win more than just accolades. The Artist of the Year winner will get $25,000, as will the Album of the Year winner.

Music fans can vote online for their favourite artists and albums, including Novillero, Inward Eye, The Morning After, The Perms, The Waking Eyes, and The Weakerthans. Novillero's A Little Tradition, The Perms' Keeps You Up When You're Down, and The Waking Eyes' Holding On To Whatever It Is are all up for Album of the Year. The Weakerthans took home Artist of the Year in 2008.

Winners will be announced from a live-to-air concert at Toronto' s Mod Club on September 22. The show will feature performances by The Weakerthans, Metric, and Hey Rosetta! If you don't happen to be in Toronto, you can catch it  on The Verge - XM 87.

Voting closed August 31. Click here to vote.
