Manitoba Music is set to present an exciting Songwriters Showcase on November 13 at The Folk Exchange. The line-up includes singer/songwriters Jaylene Johnson, Cat Jahnke, Keri Latimer, JP Hoe, and James Struthers.

The four acts will perform for the influential panelists in town for Manitoba Music’s Music Supervision workshop on the same day. Visiting panelists include Los Angeles-based music industry consultant Bob Hunka, Universal Music Publishing’s Jodie Ferneyhough, independent music supervisor John McCullough (That 70’s Show, Northern Exposure, Men in Trees), Instinct Entertainment’s Michael Perlmutter (Queer as Folk, Degrassi, The Bridge), and Firestarter Music’s Andrea Von Foerster (500 Days of Summer, The OC). The performers were chosen by the Showcase Committee from a pool of submissions.

The showcase offers these songwriters an opportunity to connect with the industry tastemakers and build on their success in music publishing and song placements in film and TV. Some of the performers have already had music featured on the screen: Johnsons’ music could be heard recent in hit shows Degrassi and Being Erica; one of Hoe’s songs made its way to long-running MTV reality show, The Real World; Cat Jahnke composed the score to NBC’s online comedy, CTRL Z; and Latimer, of Juno-winning roots quartet Nathan, contributed music to Oscar-nominated film, Frozen River.

Throughout the year, Manitoba Music produces special showcases of local talent for the guest speakers from the MusicWorks professional development workshop series. The series presents experienced music industry veterans and hot new trend setters speaking on the most important topics for today’s artists and music industry entrepreneurs. These showcase events offer Manitoba acts a unique opportunity to perform for and network with leading music industry professionals.
