Posted on

High school bands having been hitting the airwaves and generating buzz in Manitoba this spring. CBC Radio's Up to Speed has been running an online search for Manitoba's best high school rock acts, dubbed CBC Rock UTS. They received 28 entries from students grades 7-12 from Pinawa, Selkirk, Portage la Prairie, Gretna, Flin Flon, Steinbach, and Winnipeg.

A panel of judges -- musician Joanne Rodriguez, Mike Petkau Falk of the West End Cultural Centre and Head In The Sand, and songwriter/producer/manager Chris Burke-Gaffney -- narrowed the field down to 10 finalists, all of which have been receiving great fan support.

The top 10 includes: Kobalt, Warplane, Adam Hanney, Piss Ticket, Lizard People, A Broken Summer, Premonition, Pocket Change, Narwhal Strike, and Eeper Weeper.

Listeners can tune into Up to Speed every day this week between 5:15 and 5:35pm to hear more about each of the bands that made it through to the top 10, including tunes from each band. The top 3 bands will be revealed on May 9 and perform live on Up to Speed on May 13.

Head to CBC Rock UTS' Radio 3 profile to check out all of the bands and stream their music, and stay tuned for the final results!
