West End Cultural Centre Announces New Artistic Director

Today, the West End Cultural Centre announced the appointment of Jason Hooper as its new artistic director. Hooper, who has been the WECC's community outreach and volunteer coordinator for two years, will be in his new job effective October 17.

“I am thrilled to accept the position of Artistic Director,” said Hooper in the WECC's release. “I have been a long time fan of the West End Cultural Centre since attending the matinee punk rock shows as a youth. It was through those experiences that I expanded my musical horizons to include the diversity of music the West End Cultural Centre offers. I look forward to delivering the top quality, diverse music programming that the Centre is known for.”

Hooper takes the reins from Mike Petkau Falk, who has been artistic director since January 2010. Petkau Falk, who fronts indie rock outfit Les Jupes and runs local label Head In The Sand, is planning to focus on his artistic pursuits.
