Manitoba Music Returns to New York, Montreal, and Toronto
Manitoba Music is making its annual pilgrimage to three of the world’s most important music markets to present a slate of eclectic showcases this month. Six emerging Manitoba acts with significant national buzz will make the trip east to perform for top industry players in New York, Montreal, and Toronto.
Showcasing acts include breakout indie pop outfit Royal Canoe; post-punk band Les Jupes; manic pop act Boats; electro-popsters Lost Weekend; indie rockers Federal Lights; and the synth-streaked pop of Indicator Indicator.
Montreal will get a little taste of the prairies at M for Montreal, where Manitoba Music will support showcases by Les Jupes, Royal Canoe, and Boats during the popular music festival and conference, which runs November 20-23. Click here for show details
Manitoba Music will cross the border with Les Jupes, Boats, Lost Weekend, and Indicator Indicator to take over Arlene’s Grocery in New York City's Lower East Side and Brooklyn's The Rock Shop for two showcases on November 25 and 26, respectively. Bringing Manitoba music to new geographic areas and finding new markets to intensify trade activity in existing markets is a key component of Manitoba Music's newly-launched trade and business development project, which is funded with the support of Western Economic Diversification Canada. Manitoba Music's market development initiatives are also funded by FACTOR, Manitoba Film & Music, and Manitoba Trade & Investment.
Through events like these, Manitoba Music is able to increase the level of awareness and connection between our province’s music industry and the broader national and international industry, which is vital to the career advancement of Manitoba artists and industry professionals. Over the years, Manitoba Music has presented successful showcases throughout Canada, the U.S., England, and Germany, including at major music events like South by Southwest, The Great Escape, North by Northeast, Reeperbahn Festival, and more.
