Five Manitoba Bands Land Nods for The Indies

Nominations for the Independent Music Awards, better known as The Indies, are out and there are some familiar Manitoba names on the list. 2014 JUNO Award nominees KEN Mode, Little Miss Higgins & The Winnipeg Five, and Royal Canoe landed nods from the 14th annual awards, along with Grand Analog and Mise en Scene. The hardware will be handed out at Toronto's Kool Haus on May 10.
KEN Mode, Little Miss Higgins & The Winnipeg Five, and Royal Canoe are up for Blues Artist/Group or Duo of the Year, Metal Artist/Group or Duo of the Year, and Emerging Artist of the Year, respectively. Grand Analog nabbed a nod for Rap/Hip Hop Arist/Group or Duo of the Year while emerging duo Mise en scene is up Pop Artist/Group or Duo of the Year.
The Indies, which take place during Canadian Music Week (CMW), promote and honour the achievements of independent Canadian and international artists. Both public and industry votes decide the winners. Fans can vote online for their favourites as of March 31 at indies.ca.
Several Manitoba acts will be showcasing at CMW next month, including Distances, Indicator Indicator, Jess Reimer, Mise en Scene, Mobina Galore, Sc Mira,The Bokononists, The Bros. Landreth, The Noble Thiefs, and The Revival.
