Manitoba bands are heading to Cowtown this week for one of Canada's top music fests. Sled Island kicks off its run on June 24, taking over venues across Calgary for five nights. Eight local acts are making the trip, including noisey post-punks Pop Crimes, shoegaze garage-rockers Vampires, resurrected bass-and-drum act Duotang, noise-rock Tunic, indie pop-punk group The Zorgs, and more. The locals join a lineup that includes Polaris winner Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Yo La Tengo, Daniel Lanois, De La Soul, and a couple hundred more.
