Are you interested in getting some behind-the-scenes experience in supporting the local music scene, communications, and building your skills in the business side of music? 

With the support of Canada Summer Jobs, we’re looking for two fun, organized, detail-oriented students who are passionate about local music to join our team for the summer.  We’re hiring for two positions: 1) Live Music Outreach Assistant 2) Communications & Research Assistant (see descriptions below). Positions are 30 hours per week, begin in June 4 and end July 31, are paid $12.50/hour, and require some flexible workdays.

Manitoba Music is a busy and dynamic office in downtown Winnipeg with a drop-in resource centre for our members. Both positions will require concentrated work at a computer in a shared office space. Our office is up two short flights of stairs.

To be considered, an applicant must:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at start date (June 4, 2018)
  • Have been registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year
  • Intend to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year
  • Be a student in a secondary, post-secondary, vocational or technical program
  • Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*
  • Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations

*Foreign students are not eligible

Live Music Outreach Assistant 

The Live Music Outreach Assistant will work with the Manitoba Music team to help develop, maintain, and promote Manitoba Music’s live music initiatives, including Canada Day and MB Live projects, as well as provide admin support. Your work will include:

  • Amplifying the local live music scene
  • Going to live music events around Winnipeg 
  • Assisting with Manitoba Music’s social media 
  • Assisting with Manitoba Music’s promotional partnerships
  • Creating and updating content on our websites
  • Assisting in other administrative duties

We need someone who: 

  • Loves live music and going to shows
  • Knows how to take a good picture
  • Has great written and spoken communication skills in English 
  • Is comfortable with social media, especially Instagram
  • Has a fondness for spreadsheets and/or organizing things
  • Likes meeting a wide variety of people
  • Appreciates constructive feedback
  • Has some experience with Photoshop and video editing (this is an asset, but isn’t required)

This job will provide career-related work experience to students from fields including:
Event management, creative communications, arts management, music business, marketing
 

Communications & Research Assistant

The Communications & Research Assistant will help to research, create, and maintain content for our websites (manitobamusic.com, indigenousmusic.ca, and musiquefrancophone.ca) and provide admin support. Your work will include:

  • Amplifying the local music scene
  • Assisting with the creation and maintenance of content for Manitoba’s online properties
  • Compiling info on new music releases, touring, and other activity by Manitoba artists and labels 
  • Assisting with the maintenance of industry and media contact lists
  • Assisting with Manitoba Music’s social media
  • Assisting in other administrative duties

We need someone who: 

  • Is interested in understanding how the music industry works
  • Has excellent written and spoken communication skills in English (French is an asset)
  • Has experience with Excel and a fondness for organizing things
  • Likes meeting a wide variety of people
  • Is comfortable phoning and connecting with new people
  • Is comfortable with social media
  • Appreciates constructive feedback

This job will provide career-related work experience to students from fields including: Creative communications, journalism, creative writing, marketing, arts management, music business.
