Music Community Rallies After Jarvis Warehouse Fire

Winnipeg's arts community was left shaken on July 22 night after a fire consumed a Jarvis warehouse. The warehouse was a studio, rehearsal, and storage space for many local creatives, some of whom lost decades work in the blaze. Along with artwork, tools, and musical instruments and gear, the artists also lost a significant community space. The space and the community culture inside will be difficult to replace.

Efforts to support the artists impacted by the fire have already begun, including crowdfunding campaigns and fundraisers. So far, there are at least four benefit shows planned for August 2-3 at The Park Theatre, Pyramid Cabaret, and Royal Albert Arms to help the musicians who have lost all of their gear. The shows will feature plenty of live music and some will also have silent auctions.

Winnipeg Musicians Unite has launched a GoFundMe to support the musicians: gofundme.com/f/warehouse-fire-threatens-musician-livelihood

Border Crossings is running a GoFundMe focused relief for the visual artists: gofundme.com/f/aduffw-274-jarvis-ave-artist-relief

Food charity Agape Table, which lost many supplies in the fire, is taking donations: agapetable.ca

Unison Benevolent Fund provides emergency relief services to the Canadian music community. They're here to help people making the majority of their income from music-related activities in times of hardship, illness or economic difficulties.
