Call for Submissions: “Iskwewak Nikamowak” Online Talent Showcase for International Women’s Day

Posted on

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 12PM CST Tuesday February 23, 2021

Talent shows are a staple in the culture for Indigenous Peoples in Manitoba. Many aspiring singers travel the talent show circuit to compete for cash prizes and to be recognized by music industry professionals. These events are also an opportunity for undiscovered singers to perform for an online audience including Indigenous Elders, industry leaders, and youth. Unfortunately, with the reality of COVID-19, many talent showcases have been cancelled.

Presented through the Indigenous Music Development Program, Manitoba Music is now opening submissions for an online talent search, Iskwewak Nikamowak, in celebration of International Women’s Day. Up to 20 singers will be chosen to be judged by a selection committee of industry professionals. Ten finalists will have their videos air in a mini production that will air on the Indigenous Music Facebook page on March 8, 2021 after the Iskwewak Nikamowak virtual concert.
