Call for Participants: Arts Councils Grant Writing Incubator

Planning to apply for Canada Council for the Arts or Manitoba Arts Council programs? Indigenous Music is launching another grant writing incubator to support!
The incubator will offer practical support for beginner to intermediate Indigenous artists and industry professionals or who work with Indigenous artists in Manitoba who are recording a single, EP, or album for commercial release, or have a project they want to apply for funding from Canada Council for the Arts and/or Manitoba Arts Council.
Over three weeks, participants will be guided through the process of writing and applying for funding, with the guidance of experienced mentors. The program will cover application forms, budget, and marketing/project plans.
To participate in the program, applicants must:
- Be available the evenings of Wednesdays February 16, 23, and March 2 OR Thursdays February 17, 24, and March 3 between 1-8PM
- Be a First Nations, Inuit and/or Métis professional artist or music company based in Manitoba OR a company working with Indigenous artists based in Manitoba
- Be recording an upcoming single, EP, or album for commercial release OR recording demos not intended for release OR writing and doing pre-production for an upcoming project OR creating an community project that involved other Indigenous artists, youth or industry
- Have a sense of a release timeline and rough project plan that is relevant to the March deadline
- Be eligible to apply for:
- Canada Council Short-Term Programs grant (Short-Term Program eligibility); and/or
- Be eligible to apply for MAC Programs

Confirmation of Participation: Monday, February 14 at 12PM CST
Canada Council Creating, Knowing, and Sharing Program Info Session: Wednesday, February 9 at 12PM CST
Manitoba Arts Council Indigenous 360 Info Session: Thursday, February 10 at 12PM CST
Mentor Sessions: Wednesdays February 16, 23, and March 2 between 1-8PM CST OR Thursdays February 17, 24, and March 3 between 1-8PM CST
Canada Council Creating, Know, and Sharing Short-Term Projects Deadline: March 16
Manitoba Arts Council Indigenous 360 Deadline: March 25

Accepted participants will be expected to:
- Watch the info session that matches the program you’re applying for:
- Canada Council for the Arts Info Session on February 9 at 12PM CST via Facebook Live or YouTube
- Manitoba Arts Council Info Session from February 10 at 12PM CST via Facebook Live or YouTube; and/or
- Be registered on:
- Create or update an Artist CV
- Have assessment tracks recorded and ready by the grant deadline
- Start a draft budget
- Watch the You've Been Selected: How to Submit Stronger Applications by the program start date (recommended)
- Submit their finalized application by the March deadline
