Thank You Sean McManus

We’re saying a big thank you to Sean McManus, who will step down as Manitoba Music’s executive director at the end of July to take on an exciting new role with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra.

Sean first joined the Manitoba Music team in 2002 as training coordinator, helping to establish our long-running professional development program and resource centre. He moved to Toronto to complete his Masters degree from York University, returning in 2007 to reclaim the training coordinator position he originated before becoming program manager in 2009 to foster international expansion in the export development programs, and create new industry development programs that have continued to serve our music industry and artist entrepreneurs. 

In 2015, Sean took the helm as executive director, leading our association to new international export opportunities, critical systemic and policy change towards a safer and more equitable industry, and greater national advocacy cohesion. He has led us through a rapid industry evolution, shifting government and funder priorities, and the upheaval of the pandemic and sector recovery. 

He has served on many committees and boards, including the Canadian Council of Music Industry Associations, FACTOR’s National Advisory Board, Western Canadian Music Alliance, Manitobans for the Arts, Winnipeg JUNO Host Committee, BreakOut West Host Committee, and more. He has worked tirelessly with national industry partners on urgent pandemic relief and ongoing recovery planning, copyright reform, and sector advocacy. Sean’s tenure has been one of dynamic leadership, compassion, humility, practical optimism, creativity, and striving for excellence. Through it all, Sean has challenged, motivated, and supported our team and our community. 

“Being a part of the Manitoba Music team for the past 16 years has been incredibly gratifying, personally and professionally,” says McManus “I’ve had the privilege to meet so many wonderful people, support incredible artists and companies, and work towards stability and equity in our sector. I will always be a champion for this extraordinary music scene, and I’m excited to watch the organization and community continue to evolve.”
