Music fans can keep their summer of live music going in the heart of Winnipeg next month with central Canada's largest Afro and Indo-Caribbean music festival, Soca Reggae Festival. Now in its 16th year, the festival returns to Old Market Square for two days of live music at The Cube, celebrating Caribbean culture and community.
Local artists sharing their genre-spanning music this year include Congolese-born singer/songwriter and music producer Adiyo, Afrobeats/pop/R&B singer/songwriter Ben Tamana, bold young rapper Ezoman, Afrobeat/Reggae artist Jedimz, the hip hop and R&B beats of Skye, and more.
Plenty of DJs will be spinning tunes between sets, including Sly, Sugah Prince, Freez, Gaaza, Spanglish, Kesh, and Powers. Audiences can also catch dynamic dance performances from Trini Bacchanal, Watch Yah Winnipeg, and Dynamite Dance Troupe.
Started in 2006, the festival is an all-ages, family-friendly event with a variety of community vendors, food vendors sharing Caribbean eats, as well as a licensed beverage garden. Be sure to follow the Soca Reggae Festival on Instagram for updates.
