Meet the Mentors: Bastid's BBQ&A

Posted on

Skratch Bastid is back in Winnipeg this month and joining us at the Manitoba Music space on Monday, July 17 for a free afternoon session for working DJs and event producers of all backgrounds and experience levels. Joined by manager Jon Schouten, Skratch Bastid will share a behind-the-scenes look at the creation and post-pandemic relaunch of the “Bastid’s BBQ” event series plus practical knowledge about event branding, advancing event production in other cities remotely, and effectively advertising on socials.

In the performance workshop segment Skratch Bastid will share cheat codes for working DJs, with topics including crate organization, new DJ software plug-ins, and developing rehearsed routines that will elevate and distinguish a DJ set. Skratch will be joined by beat maker and finger drumming phenom Creeasian, who will share from his experience as a performer, first building his career as a dancer before transitioning into the world of live beat making and finger drumming.

We'll have DJ Hunnicutt, Kilusan, and Tony4QR in the space to moderate the sessions.

Meet the Mentors

Skratch Bastid

Skratch Bastid was born Paul Murphy in Bedford, Nova Scotia. He rose to prominence in North America through the DJ battle circuit in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and became especially noted for his crowd-pleasing routines that blended musicality and showmanship. As he crossed over from the battle world into party-rocking he built a reputation for his particular brand of DJ set—he plays the crowd favorites in ways you’ve never heard before and introduces new music in a way that makes it feel familiar. Skratch Bastid’s DJ sets can be enjoyed by casual fans and die-hards alike, and have amassed him a global following of loyal supporters as well as the respect of the pioneers of DJ culture like Jazzy Jeff, DJ Nu-Mark & DJ EMI.
