Performance Opportunity: Nagamooag Neezochackak

The Indigenous Music Development Program (IMDP) at Manitoba Music will partner with the Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG)-Qaumajuq for the second edition of Nagamooag neezochackak, an evening to celebrate Indigiqueer and Two-Spirit musicians in honour of Pride and National Indigenous History Month. 

The free public event will take place at WAG-Qaumajuq’s Main Room on June 25 and feature a moderated discussion by Indigenous artists accompanied by performances. Artists selected to participate will receive an honorarium. More details TBA.

The event title, Nagamooag neezochackak means “singing 2Spirits” in Anishinaabemowin, given by Elder Gayle Pruden of Little Saskatchewan, Manitoba.

Artists considered for this opportunity must:

  • Be a First Nation, Inuit, or Métis artist or group 
  • Identify as a part of the LGBTQ2S* community
  • Be a member of Manitoba Music (or become a member if selected) and current resident of Manitoba
  • Be available to perform on the evening of June 25, 2025
  • Be able to perform up to 15 minutes of original material or arrangements live
  • Have a strong social media presence and local audience following 
  • Have recent professional career activity (e.g. recent or upcoming release - demo/EP/LP/single, live show, tour, festival sets, industry showcases, awards and nominations, media coverage, etc.) 
  • Have a professional promotional photo and short bio
  • Have a website or profile with Manitoba Music and/or Indigenous Music, and social media profile(s)

Submissions will be reviewed by a selection committee of industry professionals based on:

  • Quality of music
  • Quality of promotional materials
  • Rationale for the opportunity
  • Online presence and fan engagement
