Since forming in late 2022, also-ran has quickly established themselves as an exciting up-and-coming band. Diving headfirst into the Winnipeg Pop-Punk and Rock scene, also-ran has played alongside bands like Avenue 46 and Alone I Walk, creating connections with local venues and cultivating their fan base. 

The name also-ran comes from a feeling of mediocrity. Meaning “A loser in a race or other contest”, the band takes the negative connotation of the word and wears it as a badge of honour. The name serves as a tongue-in-cheek way of saying “We know what you think of us and we don’t care”.

Formerly a 3-piece, The now 4-piece band is comprised of Jason the drummer, JC the bassist, Brennan the lead guitarist, and Elisha the lead singer and rhythm guitarist. Inspired by bands like Weezer, Green Day, and Blink-182, also-ran aims to bring something new to the listener's ear while still paying homage to the groups that came before them. Not quite Pop-Punk and not quite Alt-Rock, also-ran uses chunky power chords and blazing guitar solos as building blocks to write music that simplifies complex emotions and encourages self-expression.
