About

Manitoba-based artist Brenton David blends the sound of traditional Métis fiddle and contemporary Americana. His latest single, Talkin’ Bout You, reached the #1 position on the Indigenous Music Countdown. The song is produced by Juno award-winning musician Murray Pulver (Bros Landreth, Ariel Posen), and is a second glimpse into the collaboration between two well-known Canadian musicians. Brenton has also been busy performing with Tim & the Glory Boys, who are coming off a Canadian Country Music Award nomination for group of the year.

Brenton was born in Selkirk, Manitoba where he began learning fiddle from an early age. He was raised in the Métis fiddling tradition, where players learn primarily by ear and are taught local favourites like the Red River Jig and Orange Blossom Special. In his teens he fell in love with country music and began adding additional instruments to his arsenal including guitar, mandolin, pedal steel and banjo. By the time he was in his twenties, Brenton had received two Manitoba Country Music Awards and was able to solidify a career playing and writing with other artists before launching his own in 2021.

In addition to recording new Indigenous music, Brenton is committed to sharing and teaching traditional fiddle. He consistently publishes educational material for those looking to connect with Indigenous culture. Brenton was inspired to create the course after leading workshops in Northern Manitoba where access to quality instruction is sparse.
