Cantor Dust
Alternative Experimental New Age Prog Rock
About
Winnipeg’s Cantor Dust conjures evocative lyrics that explore the dichotomies between despair and hope, unearthing moments of humour amidst the dark. The caped quartet blends gripping saxophone, electric cello, and spectral percussion, above swirling synths, keys, and vocal harmonies. With a discography spanning 20 years, their pandemic release Too Many Stars spent 7 weeks atop the CKUW charts. A new album is in the works for 2026.
Cantor Dust began in 2000 as an outlet for Mark Klassen’s solo synth works. Over the course of 13 albums, his song-writing style has reflected growth in orchestration, magnitude, fantasy, and narrative intrigue. The 2015 release, I Can’t Find My Cape, reached #2 on the CKUW album chart. The 2020 iteration of Cantor Dust found Mark collaborating with multi-genre cellist Natanielle Felicitas (Civvie, Raine Hamilton Trio, JP Hoe). Together they brought the album, Too Many Stars, to life in a charistmatic live show, leaving audiences captivated.
With the addition of Dan Moroz (Blonde Goth) on sax and Scott Ellenberger (Mahogany Frog), the quartet has intensified their dynamic and emotional range with intricate arrangements which are being recorded for a new album to be released in spring 2026.
