The Grey Jays

Francophone Pop R&B Roots

The Grey Jays

About

The Grey Jays evoke adventures outdoors from inside their imaginations, in heartfelt roller coasters of emotion. Their roots/R&B sound blossomed under the endless skies of Treaty 1 Territory. The Grey Jays collaborate to arrange Holly Ruth's earnest, vulnerable songs written in English and French. Finley Allison's intuitive jazz-inspired composition shapes the structure with the band’s own brand of passionately playful orchestration. Kevin Waters is on drums, keeping everyone on their toes and Lindsay Woolgar roots the team to the ground with her bass notes.

In recent years, they’ve opened for John K Sampson at Snowdance Festival (Falcon Lake Manitoba). played Festival Du Voyageur twice (were featured on a Radio Canada Television for the festival's 50th anniversary). Big Fun Festival. WPG Fringe Festival many times, Rainbow Trout Festival, SoupStock and Winnipeg’s virtual Pride 2021, Winnipeg’s St. Bonifest. In the winter of 2021, they were recipients for MVP Round 5, alongside Eric Peterson with Dog Days Film Co. They released a music video for their song Molecules in October of 2021, and have so far won two international film awards, had two honourable mentions, and are finalists in upcoming film festivals. They love playing at Winnipeg's Park Alley Bowls, and had a great night playing a Carole King tribute show in November 2022, at Times Change(d) High and Lonesome Club. They just played their 3rd year at Jazz Fest, in June 2023.

Currently, The Grey Jays are finishing up three singles with accompanying music videos. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for upcoming releases and gigs!
