About

Half Roman is the moniker of Florin Hawkwind, a First Nations singer-songwriter hailing from the icy north. Growing up in the inner-city and facing the challenges of poverty first-hand, Florin writes cynically-charged art punk. A collage of sound and melodies inspired from the influential low-fidelity artists of the past, Florin has been songwriting ever since he picked up a bass guitar in vocational school 10 years ago, and is mostly self-taught in his technique of both production and playing of both the bass and acoustic/electric guitar.

With a tinge of irony and a love of theatrics, Half Roman is sure to be ecstatic in performance. This is reflected in his eclectic catalogue of music, ranging from belting neo-soul and folk ballads to angry spoken-word punk rock.

His up-bringing as a First Nations man in the North End of Winnipeg and punk attitude brings a fresh perspective to life in the inner-city beyond the headlines.
