Rey
Hip Hop Indigenous R&B Singer/songwriter

About
This Cree Indigenous woman is a presence to be reckoned with. An entity of her own, mixing styles of R&B, Soul, Blues/Jazz, Rap and HipHop. Undeniably captivating from the moment she start performing, which is exactly what she does, perform, with polished confidence and sensuality. A warm sultry voice like no other, accompanied by intentional poetic lyricism. This multi-talented, creative individual extends their skills to producing her own tracks, songwriting, rapping, singing, and delivering an exceptional performance. She has the ability to seamlessly flow between styles, making for a powerfully unique and thought-provoking experience.
She has made deep ties within the music community opening for names like Superdutytoughwork, 3Peat, Mikah 9, Malcolm Jay Wilson, as well as making appearances at Festival du Voyegeur, United Way Fundraiser at The RBC Convention Center, ‘Wreck’conciliation Indigenous HipHop and Skate Jam, Justice For BlackLivesMatter, Pride Winnipeg, Sakihiwe Festival and many more. Always delivering a high energy, meaningful show wherever she arrives. With an extensive history in making music and performing, this passion has been a long time in the making, and is abundantly apparent in the way she carries herself on stage.
A lifetime of overcoming adversity and challenges, having lived through foster care, homelessness, addiction, and mental illness, have inspired the deep sense of purpose that Rey has to her music and the wisdom behind her lyricism. A desire to provoke genuine self-reflection and the courage to take self-responsibility resonate deep within her writing as well as inspire assertive femininity. One of her people, for the people, she hopes to encourage and be of example to other indigenous youth who may experience or have gone through similar obstacles. She has offered her expertise in songwriting and performing with youth and intends to bring up as many people as she can as she moves forward on her journey.
“Music has saved me many times, being the only thing I had to turn to when I lost everything. It kept me afloat, it is my solace to speak my truth. A safe space to process the pain and tribulations I have faced in my life and transmute it into hope for others and myself.”
