Are you and Indigenous musician living in Canada? Do you want to learn more about how to get your music on the air? Join Indigenous Music for a panel discussion with Sarah Burke of SiriusXM (Channel 165) and David McLeod of NCI FM/Indigenous Music Countdown for an in-depth look into the world of radio and satellite radio. They will give you the tools you need to ensure you’re doing what it takes to get your work on the air. Moderated by Indigenous Music Development Coordinator Shaneen Robinson-Desjarlais.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

David McLeod (member of Pine Creek First Nation, MB) is the CEO of Native Communications (NCI) based in Winnipeg. He’s been actively involved within the Indigenous music industry for over twenty years on a local, provincial and national level. He is the Executive Producer of the multiple-award winning Indigenous Music Countdown (IMC), a weekly two-hour program syndicated on 13 stations across Canada including SiriusXM. He also co-chairs the Indigenous Music Advisory Committee for the National Music Centre in Calgary. In 2019 & 2020. David curated the “Speak-Up!” exhibition at the NMC which highlights 13 trailblazing Indigenous artists from the late 60s until recent times. He studied media at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary and television production at Ryerson University in Toronto. He is also a current member of the APTN television network board. David is also a passionate collector of Indigenous vinyl records in several genres.

Sarah Burke is the Manager of Canadian Music Programming at SiriusXM, overseeing programming for Canadian Indigenous Peoples’ Radio along with The Verge, North Americana, CBC Country, Iceberg, Influence & Attitude Franco, and The Tragically Hip Radio. She’s also a host for any of the above channels!
