Ash Koley Wins at Canadian Radio Music Awards

Quirky pop duo Ash Koley was named Best New Group or Solo Artist Hot A/C at the Canadian Radio Music Awards, which were handed out to top radio acts on March 10 at Toronto's Royal York Hotel. The duo -- Phil Deschambault and Ash Koley -- also performed at the ceremony for an audience of top industry and media. Click here watch their acceptance speech and live performance.

The CRMAs took place during Canadian Music Week, which hosts a huge music festival, industry conference, and not one but four awards shows.

Ash Koley's name might be heard at another one of those shows on March 12, the Canadian Independent Music Awards aka The Indies, where it's up for Pop Artist/Group of the Year. Fellow Manitoba bands Doc Walker and Comeback Kid also have nods for Country Artist/Group of the Year and Punk/Hardcore Artist/Group of the Year, respectively.

Ash Koley has been building significant buzz over the last year, complete with flashmobs at the Olympics, and appearance on Fashion Television, touring with Lilith Fair, and releasing its debut album, Inventions, on Sony/Nettwerk in the fall. The duo, which is managed by Nettwerk's Terry McBride, won the CRMA for its chart-topping single, "Don't Let Your Feet Touch Ground." Catch the duo live in Winnipeg at the West End Cultural Centre with Attica Riots on March 26.

Manitoba's radio industry got nods from another awards show during CMW, the Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards, which were handed out on March 10. Nominees included: Hot 103 and its music director Ace Burpee, 102.3 Clear FM, QX 104, Power 97, CKDM's Bruce Leperre, Burton Cummings Theatre, MTS Centre, Club Regent Casino, and the Pyramid Cabaret. Manitoba has an impressive presence at CMW this year, sending an unprecidented 20 acts to showcase for influential industry, media, and fans alike.  Manitoba Music hosts its first showcase at CMW in over a decade on March 11, featturing some of the brightest local artists, including Imaginary Cities, Del Barber, The Liptonians, Les Jupes, Hope Atlantic, and Take Me To The Pilot.
