Guylaina delights in performing the poetic and vibrant "Samba" and "Bossa Nova" from Brazil. These universal grooves are comforting, energizing while inviting you to live passionately.
Along with sharing the stage with Brazilian roots musicians, Guylaina's percussions and colourful voice create an appealing cocktail of "Brazilian Vibe". From the Afro-Brazilian Samba to the most recent "jazzy" Bossa Nova, these melodies and rhythms will assuredly take you to the tropical and sultry land of Brazil!
Through her artistic journey she has sought to express herself through voice, guitar, flute and choirs. Guylaina has embraced many different styles ranging from the "powerful" Spanish Flamenco to the soothing Italian ballads. She now considers herself at home with interpreting her favourites, the beautiful "Samba and Bossa Nova" from Brazil.
Traveling from Europe to Africa and going through Latin America, Guylaina's enthusiasm has spurred her to learn many languages. Besides her native French language, she is also fluent in English, Spanish and her latest favourite being Portuguese. In fact, her performance is comprised of Portuguese as well as English and French songs.
Her repertoire consists of South American standards from great composer Antonio Carlos Jobim to famous singers and songwriters João Gilberto and Vinicius De Moraes to name a few. "Brazilian Vibe" also interpret songs from the renowned traditional Brazilian singers Rosa Passos and Clara Nunez to the most recent popular artists Adriana Calcanhotto and Mariam Maria. A beautiful mix of traditional Brazilian songs with a touch of pop.
Her love for world music has led her to pursue her studies with several institutions including the Conservatory of Performing Art in Saskatchewan and the Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba.
Guylaina has performed in a variety of venues including the festivals, weddings, workshops, restaurants and showcases throughout Western Canada. "Brazilian vibe" is available as a duo (guitar or piano) as well as a larger ensemble.
