Alternative Indie Rock Singer/songwriter
Doug McArthur is a prairie-born singer-songwriter with a voice that turns heads and melodies that stay with you long after the song ends. Known for his emotionally resonant lyrics and hook-laden songwriting, Doug has been performing for over two decades, captivating audiences with his authenticity and raw talent.
He first made his mark fronting the Winnipeg-based rock bands Broken Halo and Soapbox, releasing two albums and an EP, and touring extensively throughout Western Canada. With Broken Halo, Doug performed at the 2005 Stage 13 Rock Festival, sharing the stage with The Trews, ZZ Top, Sum 41, and The Tea Party.
In 2014, Doug joined a small gospel choir invited to perform backing vocals with Heart on their show-stopping rendition of “Stairway to Heaven.” Two years later, in 2016, his powerhouse vocals were featured on YouTuber samuraiguitarist’s viral cover of “Pinball Wizard,” a performance that caught the attention of The Who themselves and introduced Doug’s voice to a global audience.
In recent years, Doug has shifted focus to his solo career. In 2023, he released his debut solo singles “Hermit Phase” and “Draw The Line,” produced by Rusty Robot (Waking Eyes, Imaginary Cities), showcasing a more introspective and refined sound. The songs earned international attention and helped establish Doug as a compelling solo voice in the Canadian music scene. His 2024 EP continued the momentum, featuring a remix of “Draw The Line” by Lana Winterhalt and a live version of “Magic” recorded at Fairy Ring Studios (Slow Spirit).
Now, Doug is gearing up for the release of his most anticipated single yet: “Magic,” dropping October 14. Already a fan favourite at live shows, the track has received early support from Winnipeg rock station Power 97 and is poised to make a major impact. With new music on the way and more shows on the horizon, Doug McArthur is carving out a solo path that feels both fresh and hard-earned.
