Manitoba Music is packing up its banners and hitting the road with a series of showcases in three important North American music markets next month. Eight buzz-worthy Manitoba acts will make the trip to perform for top industry players and savvy music fans in Minneapolis, Toronto, and Montreal.
Showcasing acts include acclaimed rock songsmith Greg MacPherson; pop rock outfit Mise en Scene; indie folk/rock act Sc Mira; Americana-tinged singer/songwriter Slow Leaves; electro rockers The Revival; folk powerhouse pair The Small Glories (Cara Luft and JD Edwards); and indie pop upstarts Yes We Mystic.
Manitoba Music will cross the border with Greg MacPherson, Les Jupes, The Revival, and Sc Mira to take over Minneapolis music haunt 7th Street Entry on November 4. While it's no stranger to American music markets, this is Manitoba Music’s first trip to Minneapolis, which is the closest major U.S. city to Winnipeg and a key touring destination for local artists.
Next up, Manitoba Music will pack the aisles at Toronto's Supermarket with Mise en Scene, Slow Leaves, and The Small Glories. The November 18 event, Manitoba Music's fifth annual autumn showcase in Canada's music capital, gives artists an important opportunity to connect with Toronto industry outside of the hubbub of a major festival or conference.
Capping off the busy month of events, Montreal will get another taste of the prairies at M for Montreal, where Manitoba Music will support showcases by Mise en Scene and Yes We Mystic on November 21 and 22 during the popular music festival and conference.
Through events like these, Manitoba Music is able to promote the province’s music industry and help build business connections which are vital to the development of Manitoba artists and companies. Over the years, Manitoba Music has presented successful showcases throughout Canada, the U.S., England, and Germany, including at major music events like South by Southwest, The Great Escape, North by Northeast, International Folk Alliance, and more.
Bringing Manitoba music to new geographic areas and finding new markets to intensify trade activity in existing markets is a key component of Manitoba Music's trade and business development project, which is funded by Western Economic Diversification Canada. Manitoba Music's market development initiatives are also funded by FACTOR through the financial support of the Government of Canada through the Department of Canadian Heritage (Canada Music Fund) and of Canada's Private Radio Broadcasters, Manitoba Film & Music, and Manitoba Trade & Investment.
