Pop Singer/songwriter Soul World Music
Weaving in influences from her African heritage, la chanson française, and American gospel, Kelly Bado’s music crosses cultural barriers to bring people together in joy and hope. Her striking vocals and uplifting melodies were recognized with a 2020 WCMA Francophone Artist of the Year Award.
Kelly’s songwriting reflects the beauty of the languages and rhythms encountered in her personal journey from Abidjan to Winnipeg. With lyrics inspired by love, celebration and social equality, Kelly is committed to the vision of an inclusive world where we come together as citizens of this vast planetary village. She received SOCAN’s Chanson Primée Award at the 2013 Chant’Ouest gala for her song Africa.
Kelly was honoured to perform on Parliament Hill as part of Canada’s 150th Celebrations along with well-known artists that included Alessia Cara, Serena Ryder, Walk Off the Earth. She was a favourite in La Voix (Quebec’s The Voice show), winning the People’s Choice award. Sir Paul McCartney, after hearing Kelly’s performance on the show, exclaimed “WOW! What a fabulous, emotional and inspiring performance!”
Hey Terre, Kelly’s new album, produced by Chris Burke-Gaffney, offers up an intoxicating blend of soul, world, and pop. !EarShot declared “It's rare hearing a love song to the earth, but upon hearing this Winnipeg artist perform this track, you'll be glad to have found another gem.”
With new songs to share, Kelly is ready to reach out to new audiences in Canada and beyond. Until she can reconnect with you in person, she’ll be taking part in the online versions of some of our favourite festivals!
