Taylor Janzen
"Dennis Quaid"

From the album Shouting Matches

Featured track, available from July 11 to July 19

The tents are up and the mics are checked and it's time for the human population at Birds Hill Park to explode. The Winnipeg Folk Festival kicks off its four-day run on July 11 and features music discovery in the great outdoors, including plenty of local gems, including William Prince, Christine Fellows, Living Hour, Seanster and the Monsters, Begonia, Jesse Matas, Roman Clarke, and Taylor Janzen.

Janzen, an alum of the Stingray Young Performers Program that's celebrating two decades at the fest this year, is the first act on the main stage, opening the festival and welcoming the crowds. The 19-year-old singer/songwriter is in the midst of a busy season, fresh from the release of her Shouting Matches EP (one of Apple Music's "10 Best Albums" in May), some coveted SXSW showcase spots, and praise from major music media like The New York Times, Rolling Stone, NPR, Noisey, Nylon, Paste, i-D, and more. In addition to her main stage performance, Janzen will hit workshop stages throughout the weekend, incuding "My Hometown" on July 12 at Big Bluestem (1PM), the Manitoba workshop at Green Ash on July 13 (11:30AM), and a celebration of the Young Performers Program at Shady Grove on July 14 (11AM).

We've got her tune "Dennis Quaid" for you as this week's featured song. Press play, read our Folk Fest preview, and don't miss out on Taylor Janzen at Folk Fest.
