The Mariachi Ghost
From the album Puro Dolor
Featured track, available from October 31 to November 8
The Mariachi Ghost is ready to share new music with the world. The award-winning genre-smashing octet will unleash its much-anticipated new album, Puro Dolor, via Sugar Gator Records / Pipe & Hat Music Group. They'll bring their dramatic style and spectacle to the Planetarium on November 2, Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), for a show presented by Jazz Winnipeg. In addition to a night of the band's signature Mexican traditional + rock sounds, tickets also offer three tacos from local fave BMC Market, who'll be on site for the event.
Says lead vocalist and guitarist Jorge Requena of Dia de los Meurtos: “is a really culturally relevant day in Mexican culture. It is the day when we remember and honour those who have passed by spending time with their memory. Every year we try to host an event that teaches people to understand it and love it (as opposed to calling it simply ‘Mexican Halloween’). This year we honour the people who we lost during the making of the album. Four of our fathers passed on, and this music is for them as much as it is for us.”
Produced by Polaris Music Prize winner Jesse Zubot (Tanya Tagaq, Hawksley Workman), the high-concept album was nearly five years in the making, and follows up the band's chart-topping, self-titled debut. It's already turning heads, including a shout out from music media behemoth, Billboard, and nods from NPR, PopMatters, and Winnipeg Free Press. We have for your ears this week the title track from Puro Dolor. Check it out and do not miss The Mariachi Ghost live.
