Record Store Day Offers Music Fans Deals, Live Music

Posted on

The temperature may be above freezing, but that’s not the only exciting thing about today. It’s also Record Store Day, celebrated around the world as a day to appreciate the general awesomeness of independently owned record stores.

Because there’s a bunch of those great, independently owned record stores right here in Manitoba, they’re going to help you celebrate by doing all sorts of things like bringing in exclusive RSD releases, selling you music for cheap, hosting draws and contests, and of course, having some in-store performances by local musicians.

Into The Music has performances most of the day featuring Miss Rae, The Young Pixels, and The Manic Shakes. Just down the street at the Winnipeg Folk Festival Music Store they’ve got Keith Dyck. Meanwhile at the West End Cultural Centre, The F-Holes release their latest, Red Hot, on vinyl. You can find more live music at stories like McNally Robinson and more. Check the Live Music Calendar for more details on the shows.

There are seven local record stores in total that are participating: Into The Music, Music Trader, Planet of Sound, Winnipeg Folk Festival Music Store, McNally Robinson, Argy’s Collectibles, and War On Music.

Pretty much every participating store has some sort of discount or giveaway, but they will definitely all have a bunch of  records that are special to RSD, so do your research and make sure you get the music you're looking for from your favourite local record shop.
