Past song of the week / January 2015

Jess Reimer
"Maggie The Retriever (Bang Bang)"

From the album The Nightjar and the Garden

Featured track, available from January 15 to January 23

Jess Reimer's long-awaited sophomore album, The Nightjar and the Garden, is finally getting its party. Reimer, who'll be joined on stage by Nightjar producer Bob Wiseman and locals including Keri Latimer and Sc Mira's Sc, will take over the West End Cultural Centre on January 24 to celebrate its release. She'll also offer a sneak peek of her upcoming video for "Maggie The Retriever (Bang Bang)" by acclaimed Montréal animator Paul Laberge, which is slated for release to coincide with Reimer's forthcoming North American tour in March and April. Neil Dyck, who painted the Nightjar artwork, will also be on stage, re-creating the cover live. Co-released by Winnipeg indie Pipe & Hat and Maple Music Recordings, the album -- which features Canadian songwriting legend Ron Sexsmith -- has already landed raves from critics, including PopMatters and Exclaim!. If you haven't picked up the album yet, it's featured on listening stations across Canada in HMV and London Drugs stores. And heartbreaker "Maggie The Retriever" is our featured song this week. Download it here and don't miss Jess Reimer's album release concert live!
