Manitoba Music Night at New Music Wednesdays Turns Two

Posted on

Manitoba is known for its music scene and for fostering new artistic talent. Two years ago, Manitoba Music and the Osborne Village Inn partnered to launch a celebration of emerging local music: New Music Wednesdays.

The weekly concert series, which features three acts every Wednesday at Ozzy's, has been a breeding ground for new bands in Manitoba's vibrant original music scene, offering bands an opportunity to get on stage, make new fans, try out new tunes, and perfect their live show. The first Wednesday of every month is Manitoba Music Night, produced and presented by Manitoba Music.

Manitoba Music Night, which has hosted 70 bands since it launched, has been a jumping-off point for many developing acts that have gone on to national and international success. Past performers include pop/rock duo Mise En Scene, currently on tour in Europe; acoustic pop act The Treble, which has since showcased for industry in L.A. and at JunoFest; singer/songwriter Jenny Berkel, who is also in the midst of European dates; hip-hop outfit and International Songwriting Competition finalist, Abstract Artform; and indie rock band Federal Lights, which had its live debut at Manitoba Music Night and has gone on to showcase at Toronto’s Canadian Music Fest and BreakOut West, with a coveted spot at NXNE this June.

On the eve of the event’s second anniversary, we’re thrilled to welcome 92 CITI FM and Half Pints Brewing Co. to Manitoba Music Night, joining existing sponsors BT Winnipeg, Manitoba Film & Music, CBC Scene, and UMFM.  These sponsors’ commitment to building the Manitoba music scene has helped countless artists and Manitoba Music Night couldn’t happen without their support.

The May 1 installment of Manitoba Music Night will feature an eclectic line-up, including the NMW return of acclaimed electro-pop foursome, Lost Weekend, which has been in L.A. recording a debut EP with Grammy-nominated producer Zach Heiligman (Foster the People) and recently launched a GGI video for “Let Me In” on BestNewBands.com. The lineup also features soul/roots newcomer Miss Rae and prog-rock group Urban Nomad, fresh from a win at Red River Radio’s battle of the bands.

Whether you play rock, hip-hop, roots, jazz, pop, world, electronica, or anything beyond or in-between, you can submit to be a part of New Music Wednesdays. For details on how to apply, visit manitobamusic.com/newmusicwednesdays.
