Musicians from Manitoba are headed into the thick of Canada’s music industry for this year’s Canadian Music Week (CMW). Running from May 7-13, CMW is one of the largest music industry festivals in Canada. Eleven local acts will be taking the stage at various venues in Toronto throughout the week to play for new fans, industry professionals, and national media.

The 36th CMW features hundreds of showcasing bands at 40+ venues in downtown Toronto. Manitoba’s talent includes emo pop duo Alone I Walk, the brassy psychedelic rock outfit Apollo Suns, alt rock bangers Attica Riots, indie vocal powerhouse Begonia, hard-hitting rockers Ex Ømerta, dreamy synth pop group Lev Snowe, the Mexican rhythm-inspired Mariachi Ghost, melody-driven garage pop sounds of Mulligrub, death pop pioneers Sc Mira, the emo trap styles of smrtdeath, and haunting ambient artist Tansy.

The week is chalk-full of talent and dedication from all corners of the industry, from the stage to streaming to behind the scenes. CMW hosts six awards celebrations four two conferences for radio, tech, music cities, and professionals working in the music industry.

This year the Winnipeg Folk Festival earned four nominations for the Live Music Industry Awards, including recognition for its efforts to keep the festival green, family-friendly, and community driven.
